oUR mISSION
Eastern Basketball Association is led by Dwaine and Kerry Banes, a husband-and-wife team with deep ties to the Durham community. Their passion for basketball and commitment to creating opportunities for local youth began with coaching their daughter’s team and hosting skills camps for neighborhood kids. From those early days, EBA has grown into a vibrant organization that now offers house leagues, skills clinics, and 11 competitive boys’ and girls’ teams for athletes ages 12–19.
Kerry and Dwaine understand that access to sport isn’t always easy, and they’ve made it their mission to remove barriers wherever possible. Through affordable programs, financial assistance, and community initiatives like annual food drives, they ensure that every child has a chance to play and grow. EBA’s coaching staff reflects these values—certified, experienced coaches who live in the community and serve as relatable role models. Many have played or officiated at high levels and complete First Aid and Safe Sport training, along with Vulnerable Sector Checks for safety. Even our scorekeepers are current rep players, gaining leadership experience and opportunities to earn volunteer hours or offset fees. At EBA, basketball is more than a game—it’s a way to build confidence, character, and community.

Meet our Coaches
At Eastern Basketball Association, our success starts with our incredible team of over 20 dedicated coaches. Each coach brings a wealth of experience, from playing or officiating at high levels to earning certifications such as “Learn to Train,” First Aid, and Safe Sport.
They are not only knowledgeable and skilled in player development but also deeply committed to fostering confidence, teamwork, and a love for the game. Our coaches live in the community they serve, making them relatable role models for boys and girls alike.
Their passion goes beyond the court—mentoring young athletes, creating inclusive spaces, and helping every player reach their full potential. With EBA, you’re learning from coaches who care as much about character as they do about competition.
